P.E. Showcase

Our Sexton Mountain students were fantastic performers at the 2016 P.E. Showcase held Thursday, March 17 at Beaverton High School!

They played a new game that is sweeping the nation from coast-to-coast for all ages...Spikeball.  It is a 2 vs. 2 roundnet game that is a mash-up of volleyball and 4-square.  It can be found at many sporting goods store (like Dick's Sporting Goods) and online (like Amazon).

Each elementary school could bring a group of students to perform a P.E. activity that represents a part of what is going on in P.E. classes in the 21st century.

I really enjoyed seeing our 32 4th and 5th graders perform a challenging game in front of hundreds of people in big environment.  The worked hard to prepare and were flawless in their performance.

Way to go, Eagles!

PE Showcase Applications

The Beaverton PE Showcase is one of my favorite evenings of the school year.

Here is the application for 4th and 5th graders.  It is loaded with information.  Look for more info below the application.

Hundreds of Beaverton elementary students representing their school's PE programs.

Thousands of spectators in the stands.

Students perform snippets of activities they do in their PE classes.

Community members and parents can see a small snippet of what goes on in today's PE programs.

Here is a recent Sexton Mt. PE Showcase team...

Looking for 16-20 4th and 5th grade students who love PE, enjoy being physical active, and would welcome a chance to perform in front of a large crowd.

Applications are due Monday, February 29.  The PE Showcase team will be announced on by Wednesday, March 2.  The team will practice during school hours.

The 2016 Beaverton PE Showcase is on Thursday, March 17 at Beaverton HS from 6:30-8:00.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Climbing Wall

Experiences.  They build awareness.  They build confidence.  They build skills.  They bring on wisdom.

In P.E., we always want to help develop students' physical literacy.  Part of that is learning and developing many skills.

Thanks to our super supportive PTC and community members, we have a new 8 ft. by 20 ft climbing wall installed in our gym.

All of our students got to experience it this week.  I was so proud of the kids who tried something new.  I was proud of the experience climbers who climbed without a harness (do not worry, their feet cannot go higher than 3 feet of the ground).

I saw lots of students increasing their confidence as they tried a difficult task.  Also something about growth.

Enjoy some pics of kids in action!
