Hoop Shoot Contest update

UPDATE:  There will not be a Hoop Shoot Contest this school year.

I have had several students ask about it.  Every year, the local Beaverton Elks Club reaches out to invite schools to participate.  This fall, we never heard from them.  Despite many attempts to touch bases with the coordinator, we never heard a response until just a few days ago, which was way past the deadline.  Sounds like they had a coordinator change this year and a few details slipped through the cracks.  They told us they hope to continue it next year!

Many of you know, we typically hold an annual Hoop Shoot Contest every school year.  Kids in Grades 3-5 compete to see who can make the most free throw shots in basketball.  It is a competition run by the Elks Club.  Schools send their boys and girls winners to compete in other competitions held by the local, regional, and national Elks Club organizations.

Hoop Shoot Update

Sexton Mountain has 3 students who will compete in the Oregon State Hoop Shoot contest later in February.  Each of them won the Sexton Mountain, Beaverton, and Metro contests by making the most free throw shots in their age group.
We are happy that Haimanot, Emilia, and Justin are enjoying great experiences that came about due to their hard work, courage,  and perseverance.

2015-2016 Hoop Shoot Winners

Congratulations to this year's Sexton Mountain Hoop Shoot winners.  These four students made the most basketball free throws out of ten attempts in their age group.  Sixty-six students participated during their PE classes in early December.

10-11 year-old Boys - Carson R.
10-11 year-old Girls - Haimanot H.
8-9 year-old Boys - Justin H.
8-9 year-old Girls - Emilia S.

Each of these winners compete against other Beaverton School District winners in the Beaverton Elks Club contest in early January at Villa Sport in Beaverton.

2014-15 Hoop Shoot Winners

Congratulations to this year's Sexton Mountain Hoop Shoot winners.  These four students made the most basketball free throws out of ten attempts in their age group.  Seventy-two students participated during their PE classes in late November.

10-11 year-old Boys - Tyler C.

8-9 year-old Boys - Christian N.
8-9 year-old Girls - Jessica K.

Each of these winners competed against other Beaverton School District winners in the Beaverton Elks Club contest in early December.  Tyler, Haimanot, and Christian won and will compete in the Metro Contest in January in Milwaukie.
